Antonio is a Senior Scientist in AstraZeneca’s Biologics Engineering—Protein Engineering and New Modalities division, specialising in pre-clinical biopharmaceutical development. His expertise lies in bioconjugation chemistry and the design of advanced protein conjugates, helping to shape innovative biotherapeutic strategies. With a background in Pharmacy and a degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology, Antonio began his career as an organic and peptide chemist before earning a PhD in Chemical Biology and Enzymology from Cardiff University. He went on to hold postdoctoral appointments at leading UK academic institutions, including the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology, where he contributed to advances in biocatalysis, glycoengineering, and bioconjugation chemistry. Antonio’s multidisciplinary background in synthetic chemistry, enzymology, biocatalysis, glycobiology, and protein engineering supports the advancement of next-generation therapeutic modalities at AstraZeneca.
