Mr. Oweh Onovwakpoma Mba-Sam is the Acting Managing Director of Manufacturers Power Development Company Ltd, a subsidiary of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria MAN. He is a seasoned leader and energy professional with over three decades of experience in property development and sustainable energy project development. He currently runs a Doctorate program in Renewable Energy at the Atlantic International University, Honolulu, United States of America. He is also an alumnus of the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos State University, and Enugu State University, where he obtained a Higher Diploma in Architecture and an Associate member of the Nigerian Institute of Architects. He has a PGD and a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning and a Master in Business Administration, respectively. With a strong background in construction and energy development, Mr. Mba-Sam began his career in 1987 as a Project Development Officer at the United Bank for Africa (UBA). He later held key roles at Fidelity Bank and Fortune International Bank, honing his corporate services expertise with good exposure to financing in the banking environment he found himself, in property acquisition and development/investments with a strong interest in sustainable energy in buildings with rising cost in energy and switch from fossil fuel to renewable energy. In 2005, Mr. Mba-Sam committed Flint Onyx to divesting to focus on solid mineral exploration and trading. He successfully consolidated his entrepreneurial endeavors by merging Gold Castle Ltd, his building construction and contract services company, and Ishak-Soneh Nigeria Ltd, a sustainable energy consulting and development company that exposed him to providing sustainable energy services for the Nigerian industrial sector, when the company conducted an energy audit for the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria nationwide, and the flagship Flint Onyx and Company into the Flint Onyx Group, where he then served as non-executive Chairman before leaving. As Acting Managing Director of Manufacturers Power Development Company Ltd, Mr. Mba-Sam is committed to driving the company's mission to provide reliable, efficient, and sustainable energy solutions to Nigeria's manufacturing sector. His vision is to make the company a leading player in the energy industry space while using energy adequacy drive for manufacturing to promote economic growth and development in Nigeria. His expertise and focus are solar power generation and distribution for industries, energy optimization and management optimization, energy efficiency, and, energy sustainability that is tailored to ensure industries manufacture with the least energy cost due to the rising cost of energy challenges in Nigeria. He has had various pieces of training and hands-on experience with the GIZ workshop, UNIDO Small Hydro Workshop, International energy efficiency capacity building, Energy Audit pieces of training, SUNREF energy management training, with Presentations in both local and international energy fora. Under his leadership, Manufacturers Power Development Co. Ltd has made significant strides in developing innovative solar energy projects aimed at reducing operational costs and enhancing profitability for Nigerian industries. Mr. Mba-Sam is dedicated to transforming the energy landscape in Nigeria by providing zero-CAPEX energy solutions, allowing manufacturing entities to pay only for the power they consume. The company organized its maiden edition of the Manufacturers Energy Security Summit on November 19-21, 2024. His plan and strategies are for industries to implement comprehensive energy management systems, energy optimization techniques, energy efficiency improvement practices, and training innovative programs on zero energy waste, green manufacturing practices, and accessing funding for sustainable energy development to reduce their cost of production.
