Wilson Power Solutions is a Yorkshire-based transformer manufacturer recognised for pioneering transformer core technology and focusing on sustainability and decarbonisation within electrical networks. We supplied transformers to over 100 BESS projects with a total capacity of 7.5GW and 13.1GWh. Our product offering covers a range of bespoke Power Transformers with ratings from 33kV, 66kV, 132kV, up to 400kV, and Tier 2 compliant distribution transformers with ratings from 11kV or 33kV to LV, which are ideal for battery energy storage projects or solar farms.
We customise transformer specifications to match the requirements of the battery or power conversion system. Whether it is one battery, a bank of two, or more, each of our offerings in the BESS portfolio reflects our commitment to innovation, bespoke design, and high quality.
Our products:
We design, manufacture, and supply bespoke two- and three-winding Power Transformers. Available ratings are up to 300MVA, and Autotransformers up to 500MVA, with voltage levels of 400kV, 275kV, 132kV, 66kV, and 33kV (non-standard voltages are available). Our Power Transformers, including Extra High Voltage (EHV) transformers, are built to comply with Ecodesign Tier 2 regulations. Our bespoke designs are built according to site requirements and are available liquid-filled, conforming to IEC, BS, and other International Standards. Wilson Power Transformers come with an industry-leading 24-month warranty from dispatch, with an extended warranty option available upon request.
Transformers with ratings of 4MVA and above, either 11kV or 33kV to LV (less than 1kV) with two, three or five windings are considered large distribution transformers. Increasingly popular with the advent of battery energy storage systems amongst other renewable sources, Wilson Power Solutions has a proven track record in delivering fully bespoke large distribution transformers to a range of sectors.
Auxiliary transformers typically step down or up the voltage to a safer level suitable to power plant auxiliary loads and equipment on site, such as lighting, CCTV, and fire systems. They also help isolate the control circuits from higher voltages in the main power system, ensuring the site facilities' safety and proper functioning. Our auxiliary transformers are designed bespoke to your needs and installed where necessary as part of your power transformer assembly.
Primary Voltage Levels: 6.6kV, 11kV, 11-6.6kV or 33kV
Secondary Voltage Levels: 415V or 433kV
kVA rating can go higher than 4500kVA in the case of three-winding or more
Vector Groups: Dyn11 or Dyn1, or any other vector groups as per IEC 60076
Also known as zig-zag transformers due to their vector grouping, earthing transformers create a neutral point for the power system by providing a path to the ground or earth for fault currents. In the event of a fault in normal operating conditions, such as a short circuit, the earthing transformer allows the fault current to flow to the ground. This protects the equipment, mitigating potential hazards such as electrical shocks or fires and limits the magnitude of transient overvoltages by providing a low impedance path to the ground.
Short Time Current Rating and Duration
Maximum Current: 1500 amps
Duration: 10 seconds
Vector Group: ZN or any other vector group as per IEC 60076
Our combined Earthing and Auxiliary Transformers are designed to integrate the functions of both Earthing and Auxiliary Transformers into a single unit. This provides the system with safety, stability and efficiency, establishing a ground reference for the electrical system while facilitating the connection between site equipment (lighting, CCTV, etc.) and the electrical grid. This also streamlines the installation process whilst minimising space.
