David Shields, Chief Security Officer, Mandiant, Google Cloud

David is the ANZ Government Lead at Mandiant, part of Google Cloud. In this role he leads a dedicated team of cybersecurity professionals solving some of the toughest cybersecurity challenges of our day. 

David is also the Google and Mandiant Chief Security Officer. In these roles, he is accountable for ensuring that Mandiant and Google respectively meet the governance and security obligations as part of the Australian Defence Industry Security Program. 

David has been at the forefront of cybersecurity for 12 years, with real-world experience in penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, cloud security architecture and consulting, incident remediation, incident management and governance, risk and compliance. 

He has worked with the Australian Government as a soldier, federal public servant and now trusted advisor, and understands the unique Australian Government cyber operating environment across a broad range of organisations. He regularly engages with a broad range of stakeholders, from boards, executives, the CIO and CISO and their managers, while also being able to hold a conversation with the most technical staff on the latest vulnerability or espionage campaign.
