Michelle Xiang is a UX Designer delivering website and portal experiences at the Department of Health and Aged Care. With a background in medical research and a Masters of Interaction Design at the University of Sydney, Michelle draws upon her extensive knowledge of creative problem solving to tackle ‘wicked problems’ for the public good and champion the people she is designing for. Michelle is passionate about leading projects that build corporate capability in human-centred design and driving organisational change to enable positive user experiences for government services and products.
Complex systems in the public sector can hamper efforts to create change and maintain the momentum. Using the implementation of a design system as a case study, we demonstrate how a systems thinking approach assisted us in building human-centred design capability, drove cultural change in the workplace, and ultimately benefitted the people who use our digital products.
