Sylvia Liu is a User Experience (UX) designer and Assistant Director at the Department of Health committed to designing services and products that benefit the people using them. Sylvia believes in building empathy for the people and is passionate about delivering intuitive and accessible digital experiences. With a background in Interaction Design from the Queensland University of Technology, Sylvia has successfully led multiple projects from concept to completion, including initiatives that resulted in the uplift of Human Centred Design capability in her branch.

Design systems in the public sector - catalysts for cultural change

Complex systems in the public sector can hamper efforts to create change and maintain the momentum. Using the implementation of a design system as a case study, we demonstrate how a systems thinking approach assisted us in building human-centred design capability, drove cultural change in the workplace, and ultimately benefitted the people who use our digital products.
